Ophthalmologist Dr. (Mrs.) Sonal Ambatkar is a Glaucoma and Phaco Surgeon based in Nagpur, where since January 2007 she has been practising at the Shaureen Advanced Eye Care Hospital located at Ajni Square on Wardha Road.

Dr Sonal Ambatkar is a Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) in Ophthalmology, for which she studied and trained at Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli. After completing her superspecialisation, Dr. Ambatkar was absorbed by the institute as Medical Officer in May 2002. She attended and took care of general ophthalmology out-patient departmental work as well as operation room routines. She also conducted several free camps under the aegis of Aravind Eye Hospital.

In December 2002, Dr. Sonal Ambatkar assumed the role of Consultant - Glaucoma Services at the Aravind-Zeiss Centre of Excellence, also located at the Aravind Eye Hospital. She underwent specialised training in glaucoma under Dr. R Ramakrishnan, the President of the Glaucoma Society of India. She gained extensive experience in procedures such as glaucoma surgeries, manual small incision cataract surgeries, phacoemulsification and anterior segment laser procedures, as well as orbital and other anterior segment surgeries. She trained in high-volume manual small incision cataract surgeries, and has performed over 12,000 surgeries till date.
